Dan Khoo is the President of MDeC Americas Inc, a Silicon Valley organization established to drive the global expansion of Malaysia’s digital economy and catalyze the interconnection of Silicon Valley and Malaysia’s technology ecosystems to enhance digital transformation. The office acts as a gateway for high-growth Malaysian technology companies to enter the American market, and facilitates Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) from US-based tech multinational corporations into Malaysia, as a gateway to ASEAN.
Khoo is also Chairman Emeritus of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) after serving two terms as WITSA Chairman from 2008 to 2012. WITSA is a consortium of Information Technology (IT) industry associations from more than 80 economies around the world. WITSA members represent over 90 percent of the world IT market.
He brings with him more than 25 years of experience in the Information Technology and media industries. Throughout this time, he has played leading roles in organizations that are a unique blend of content, media and technology.
His award-winning career has included pioneering IT journalism and Internet advertising in Malaysia, an entrepreneurship role in a startup that he sold to a Nasdaq- listed company and leadership of an IT company that he helped take public as CEO.
In addition to his corporate and entrepreneurship roles, Khoo has volunteered his services in technology non-profit organizations and has held leadership positions in national, regional and global tech bodies.
He was Chairman of the Association of the Computer Industry Malaysia (PIKOM) from 1995 to 1997 and continues to serve as an Adviser.
In the regional arena, Khoo was President of the Southeast Asia Information Technology Organization (SITO) from 1996 to 1998 and a Director of the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO) from 1995 to 1997.
